12 Cozy Things to Do Near Cortlandt Manor This Fall

Fall has a way of slowing us down in the best possible way.

The mornings are crisp. The leaves begin to change. Sweatshirts replace tank tops. Suddenly, a cup of coffee and a walk outside feel like the perfect way to spend a Saturday.

If you are visiting Cortlandt Manor this fall, or you are lucky enough to live nearby, there are so many ways to enjoy the season. Some are classic Hudson Valley fall experiences. Others are the little local gems that make this area feel like home.

Here are twelve cozy things to do near Cortlandt Manor, Peekskill, Croton, Yorktown, and the surrounding Hudson Valley this fall.

1. Start Your Morning at Peekskill Coffee House

There is something about walking into a local coffee shop on a chilly morning that just feels like fall.

Peekskill Coffee House is a downtown favorite at 101 South Division Street. Grab a latte, chai, crepe, waffle, panini, or whatever your favorite fall drink happens to be, and take a few minutes to slow down before the day begins.

If you have time, wander through downtown Peekskill afterward. The brick sidewalks, local shops, public art, and historic buildings make it one of my favorite places to spend a quiet morning.

2. Hike Anthony's Nose

If you are looking for incredible fall views, Anthony's Nose is hard to beat.

The hike is challenging enough to feel rewarding without taking your entire day, and the overlook at the top gives you one of the most iconic views of the Hudson River and Bear Mountain Bridge.

Go early on weekends because parking fills quickly during peak foliage.

3. Visit the Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze

If you are visiting between mid-September and early November, this is a must.

The Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze at Historic Van Cortlandt Manor in Croton-on-Hudson features more than 7,000 illuminated jack o'lanterns arranged throughout the grounds. For 2026, Blaze is scheduled for select evenings from September 18 through November 8.

Even if you have seen photos online, they do not do it justice.

Be sure to buy timed tickets in advance because many evenings sell out.

4. Spend an Afternoon at Bear Mountain

Bear Mountain is not just a hiking destination.

Take a scenic drive, walk around Hessian Lake, visit Perkins Memorial Tower if the road and tower are open, or simply pack a picnic and enjoy the changing leaves. Before you go, check the New York State Parks page for current trail alerts and seasonal access updates.

If you are visiting from outside the area, this is one of those places you will remember long after your trip is over.

5. Warm Up with Hot Yoga at Lila Within

After spending a cool fall morning outside, there is nothing better than stepping into a warm yoga studio.

Whether you have spent the day hiking, apple picking, or simply walking around town, hot yoga is a beautiful way to stretch tired muscles and recharge before heading home.

Never tried yoga before?

You are exactly who we love welcoming.

Lila Within offers hot yoga, Hot 26, warm yin, restorative classes, Pilates, and beginner-friendly movement in Cortlandt Manor. Our classes are designed for everyone, whether it is your first class or you have been practicing for years.

6. Explore Croton Gorge Park

The New Croton Dam is impressive any time of year, but fall may be the prettiest.

Croton Gorge Park sits at the base of the dam and offers open lawn space, views of the spillway, picnic areas, and access to the Old Croton Aqueduct trail.

Bring your camera. Walk across the lawn. Listen to the water. It is peaceful, beautiful, and only a short drive from Cortlandt Manor.

7. Go Apple Picking

No Hudson Valley fall is complete without apple picking.

There are several orchards and farm markets within driving distance of Cortlandt Manor where you can spend the morning filling a bag with apples, sipping fresh cider, and picking up cider donuts.

It is one of those traditions that never really gets old.

8. Watch the Sunset Along the Hudson River

Sometimes the best plans are the simplest ones.

Grab a warm drink and head toward the river.

As the sun begins to set, the colorful hills reflect off the Hudson, creating one of the prettiest views you will find anywhere in Westchester.

No hiking required.

Just slow down and enjoy it.

9. Browse Downtown Peekskill

One of my favorite things about Peekskill is that every visit feels a little different.

Maybe you will discover a new boutique.

Maybe you will stop into an art gallery.

Maybe you will find a restaurant you have never tried before.

The downtown area has a creative energy that makes it fun to explore without any real plan.

10. Treat Yourself to Ice Cream at Pinky's

Yes, even in the fall.

Pinky's Ice Cream in Cortlandt Manor is known for small-batch, chef-crafted flavors, including seasonal combinations that feel right at home in the Hudson Valley. Check current hours before you go, then make it part of your cozy fall loop.

11. Drive the Scenic Roads Around Cortlandt Manor

Not every fall adventure needs a destination.

Some of the prettiest roads around Cortlandt Manor wind through forests, stone walls, horse farms, and small neighborhoods where the trees create tunnels of orange and gold overhead.

Roll the windows down.

Turn on your favorite playlist.

Take the long way home.

12. Spend the Day Without a Schedule

This might be my favorite suggestion.

So often we are rushing from one thing to the next.

Fall reminds us to slow down.

Maybe your day looks like coffee, a walk, yoga, dinner, and home.

Maybe it is a hike followed by an afternoon reading outside.

Maybe it is simply spending time with people you love.

Sometimes the coziest days are not the busiest ones.

A Perfect Cozy Fall Day Near Cortlandt Manor

If I were planning the perfect autumn day around Cortlandt Manor, here is what it might look like:

  • Coffee at Peekskill Coffee House

  • A morning hike at Anthony's Nose or Blue Mountain Reservation

  • Apple picking or a scenic drive

  • Hot yoga or Pilates at Lila Within

  • Dinner in downtown Peekskill

  • The Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze, if it is in season

Not because you have to check every box.

But because every stop gives you another reason to slow down and enjoy this beautiful little corner of the Hudson Valley.

One of the things I love about living here is that fall is not just something to look at. It is something to experience.
