West Point Parent Weekend: Where to Go When You Need a Minute
West Point parent weekends are beautiful, but they can also be a lot.
You are proud. You are emotional. You are watching the clock. You are trying to soak up every second with your cadet while also figuring out meals, parking, events, and the next goodbye.
If you have a little space in the weekend, here is where I would go.
Start With Coffee in Peekskill
Peekskill Coffee House is a good place to land when you need coffee, a crepe, a panini, or just a table where no one is rushing you.
It feels local and comfortable, which is exactly what I want during a weekend that can feel very scheduled.
Take One Hour at Lila Within
This is the parent reset.
Lila Within is in Cortlandt Manor, near Peekskill and the West Point area. We offer hot yoga, Pilates, warm yin, restorative yoga, and beginner-friendly classes.
If your body is holding the travel, the emotions, and the logistics, come take class.
You do not need to arrive calm.
You do not need to be flexible.
You do not need to have practiced yoga before.
Just come as you are.
Walk the Peekskill Waterfront
After class, walk along the Hudson River at the Peekskill waterfront.
Riverfront Green Park gives you space to move slowly, talk with your family, or just look at the water for a few minutes.
Sometimes that is exactly enough.
Bring Something Back From Bear Mountain Bakery
If you are heading back toward West Point, Bear Mountain Bakery in Highland Falls is a sweet stop for pastries, cookies, or something to bring to your cadet.
It is a small gesture, but those things matter.
