What to Wear and Bring to Hot Pilates: A Simple First-Class Checklist

You do not need a matching set, a new bag, or a whole shopping trip to come to Hot Pilates. You need clothing you can move in and a few practical things that help you feel prepared.

For Hot Pilates at Lila Within in Cortlandt Manor, start with comfortable exercise clothes, a mat, water, and a towel. If you are unsure about equipment or what is available at the studio, check with us before your visit. We are happy to help you get ready.

Wear clothes that let you focus on movement

Choose breathable exercise clothing that feels comfortable when you bend, reach, sit, and lie down. Leggings or shorts and a top that stays in place can make it easier to concentrate on your teacher instead of adjusting your outfit.

Try a quick movement check at home: reach your arms up, bend your knees, and sit on the floor. If you feel comfortable doing those things, you are off to a good start. The label and color are entirely up to you.

Pack a mat, water, and a towel

  • A mat: Bring one you are comfortable moving on. If you need to borrow or rent equipment, ask us about current availability before class.

  • Water: Bring a bottle you can keep nearby and use when you need it.

  • A towel: A small towel can be useful in a heated room. If you use a mat towel, make sure it stays securely in place.

  • A change of clothes: Optional, but handy if you are heading somewhere afterward.

  • A hair tie: If you use one, putting an extra in your bag can save a little last-minute searching.

Do I need special Pilates socks?

Footwear expectations can differ by studio and class. Ask your teacher what is appropriate for the class you booked. You do not need to guess or buy a special item just because you saw it in a video.

The same goes for weights, bands, and other props. Your teacher will tell you what the class uses. Before buying equipment, check what you actually need.

Give yourself time to settle in

Book through our Hot Yoga and Pilates class schedule, then plan to arrive within the 15 minutes before the start. Our doors lock when class begins. Leave shoes and bags in the designated area and silence your phone so you can give yourself this time.

If it is your first visit, tell your teacher. A quick hello and a question about where to set up can make an unfamiliar room feel much more welcoming.

A note about the heated room

Comfortable clothes are helpful, but they do not remove the demands of exercising in heat. Take breaks as needed. Stop and tell your teacher if you feel unwell; dizziness or nausea is a reason to cool down, not push harder. The CDC has information about heat and health if you have questions about your personal risk.

Quick questions before you go

Should I bring a friend?

You are welcome to make a plan together. Each person should reserve a spot. Coming on your own is welcome, too.

What if I forget something?

Let your teacher know when you arrive. We can tell you what is available and help you work out the next step.

Can I use the intro offer for Pilates?

Yes. Our new student intro offer lets you explore yoga and Pilates classes and find what feels right.

The most useful thing to bring

A little willingness to be new. You do not have to arrive looking like someone who has done this for years. Come as you are, ask what you need to ask, and let your first class be a beginning.
